Bongiovanni Racing hit the road recently for two exciting back-to-back weekends of drag racing. The first stop was this past weekend at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, where the team competed in the NMCA/Watson Racing Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Ford Performance. The team will follow the NMCA event by participating in the 65th Annual NHRA U.S. Nationals beginning on Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The NMCA Cobra Jet Showdown is a special one for Bongiovanni Racing. The team attended the very first race in 2011 and drivers Evan Smith and Anthony Bongiovanni scored a win and runner-up. It’s always been a fun race and this year, drivers Anthony Bongiovanni and Ken Miele, competed once again in their Micro Strategies Cobra Jets.
Anthony and Kenny ran strong in qualifying and made it past the first round with a pair of close wins. Unfortunately, their luck ran out the second round, as they lost tight races by just thousandths of a second.
“We were hoping to get a better result at the NMCA Cobra Jet Showdown,” said Anthony Bongiovanni.
“This is a really fun event and the NMCA puts on a great show. There’s a variety of classes and a wide range of great cars. The fans really love the Cobra Jets and we enjoy supporting this series and this event in particular.”
“It’s also nice to do well at a race presented by Ford Performance,” he added.
“We’re pleased with the performance, so we’ll head to Indy with confidence. The U.S. Nationals is a six-day race that puts driver and equipment to the test. We’ve done well there in the past, and we hope to come home with solid results.”
You can follow the action from the 65th NHRA US Nationals on our Facebook page where we’ll post results, photos and videos from Indy.
