Bongiovanni Racing and its drivers including Anthony Bongiovanni, Dan Fletcher and Tim Fletcher, completed a successful weekend in Division 2 racing at South Georgia Motorsports Park in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The Trio ran strong at the popular quarter mile drag strip with round wins and Anthony Bongiovanni finishing the weekend third in home-division points standings.

Bongiovanni got off to a good start, running 8.75 to qualify 5th in his Micro Strategies Stocker Mustang, but he redlighted early on ending his run in Stock. Thankfully, Tim Fletcher was on his game, and he made a mark with his Micro Strategies Camaro. He won a tricky heads-up race against Dennis Bargeron, which was a nail-biter from start to finish. Tim was quicker at the tree (.027 to .057) and ran 10.957 at 118 mph to hold off the quicker 10.948 of Bargeron. Tim continued to drive well, lasting until the third round, before losing to Blake Hickman.
In Super Stock, Dan lost a tight race against the reigning world champ Jimmy Hildago, but Bongiovanni carried the Micro Strategies flag, winning round 1 as his opponent broke out. In round 2 Bongiovanni won a heads-up match with Michael Brand, which really pumped up the team. Anthony was .064 on the tree and ran 8.80 at 154 mph to beat Brand, who was 8.84 at 153 mph. “That was an important round,” said Bongiovanni. “Brand runs a similar Cobra Jet to ours and I had to work on the engine calibration to step up our performance. The changes worked and I was able outrun him for the win,” he added.

It was back to bracket racing in round 3, where Bongiovanni faced Division 2 standout Russell Ghent. Anthony delivered a stellar .019 on the tree and another 8.800, which was spot on his 8.80 dial in. This left Ghent no room, and he broke out running 10.07 on a 10.08 dial in.
Bongiovanni made his exit in the 4th round, when he broke out, running 8.76 on his 8.80 dial in. “I raced Michael Bryant in round 4, he’s a tough racer. “I put up a solid reaction time, .038, but he was a tad quicker with a .011. I ran him down and we both broke out, but he was a touch closer to his dial (9.74 on a 9.76) compared to my 8.769 on an 8.80 and that small margin gave him the win,” said Bongiovanni.

“It’s always great racing at South Georgia Motorsports Park,” said Bongiovanni. “It’s a great facility with a friendly staff and great track conditions. We went a few rounds, but we’re always looking for better performance. That’s why we race; it’s the constant challenge, both mechanically and mentally, that pushes us to do better. In drag racing, you can drive well and win, and you can drive well and lose if your opponent does it just a little bit better.”
